COUNTRY: Japan
ABV (PROOF): 50% (100)
PRICE: $ N/A | € 75
TYPE: rum
This Japanese rum comes from a small distillery in Otsu, near Lake Biwa east of Tokyo. It’s made from unrefined sugar cane and aged in American oak casks.
The nose is intense but clean, with vesou, hints of peach flowers, and vanilla gracefully following. The mouth is elegant, reminiscent of Japanese whisky. Warm, spiced, vanilla, white pepper, toasted cereals, and plantain. Good persistence with hints of caramel chocolate, cappuccino, toasted peanuts, and a dash of sulfur. It’s a very elegant rum that avoids the usual clichés and returns all the magic of Japan.
93Among the rums tested in blind tastings and reviews throughout the year, those scoring the best get reselected. These products were then tried once again in a new blind tasting, which means not knowing what they are during the tasting. The only indication on the sample concerns the ABV content: a red mark states that the product has an ABV higher than 50% (100° proof). The test results are then compared, and the TOP 10 is made.
