The Balvenie 16 Year French Oak Pineau Cask Finish is the newest release from the Scotch brand. The Balvenie claims the use of French Oak casks since they made their first whisky.
It is a 16 year-old Single Malt Scotch whisky, matured in American oak casks and then finished in casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes, a fortified wine, made from unfermented grape juice, to which a Cognac eau-de-vie is added and then matured.
Balvenie’s UK Brand Ambassador Alwynne Gwilt stated “with the release of our new French Oak 16-Year-Old, we are exploring yet another world of flavour through the incredible cask finishing process which our malt master of nearly 60 years, David C. Stewart MBE, pioneered decades ago. It’s incredible to watch the flavours unfurl in a new way with the addition of these Pineau de Charantes casks and showcases that the skill it takes to continue innovating is deep within our ethos of staying true to being a maker at heart.”
It is bottled at 46.9% ABV (93.8 proof). The suggested retail price is £123 (around $ 150).
