Suntory recently announced the new Yamazaki collection for 2022, called Yamazaki Limited Edition Tsukuriwake Selection. “Tsukuriwake” is a Japanese word meaning ‘artisanship through a diversity of making’. With this line, the brand wants to introduce the foundation pillars of its single malt, used in its whiskies since 1984: puncheon, peated malt, Spanish oak, and mizunara. For the making the brand used large casks, approximately 480 liters, allowing the liquid to mature slowly, resulting in a whisky with complexity and vibrancy, claimed Suntory.
Suntory’s chief blender Shinji Fukuyo stated “what excited me most about this launch is that just one year before the 100th anniversary of Suntory whisky, we can finally share the full story behind our tsukuriwake way of whisky making, which was born from the founding house of Japanese whisky. The 2022 Yamazaki Limited Edition Tsukuriwake Selection honors the fact that greatness comes from diversity, and in doing so, we unveil what truly makes Yamazaki single malt whisky the authority of Japanese whisky.”
The 2022 Yamazaki Limited Edition Tsukuriwake Selection was initially released in Japan in 2020. The collection will debut in certain global markets next month including the US, the UK, Germany, France, Austria, Spain, Singapore, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Thailand, and Australia. Each expression is bottled at 48% ABV and has a price of US$450, except for the mizunara bottling (US$620).
