The English Harbor 5 year old is produced on the Caribbean island of Antigua, at the Antigua Distillery, which was founded in the 1930s. It is made with a blend of spirits from the Dominican Republic and Guyana. At the end of distillation, the rum ages for 5 years in small ex-bourbon barrels, some of which are over 25 years old.
The nose releases hints of toasted wood, maple syrup, vanilla, and sweet spices. With the aeration, fresher notes of orange zest and rhubarb follow.
The palate confirms citrus fruits, now accompanied by a mineral note, then followed by vegetable nuances and dried coconut. Nuances of ripe fruit.
The finish is medium-long, with notes of wood, wood spice, and banana.
Overall, the English Harbor 5 year old is a typical example of the English tradition based on the elevation of the distillate in oak barrels. It is endowed with excellent harmony and an aromatic palette that boasts a good complexity. The quality/price ratio is also interesting.
