George T. Stagg 2019 Kentucky Straight Bourbon is the annual release of a famous Kentucky Straight Bourbon from Buffalo Trace distillery. The 2019 version comes from a mash containing Kentucky corn, Minnesota rye and North Dakota malted barley. It has been distilled in spring 2004 and aged for more than 15 years new white oak barrels, charred for 55 seconds at level 4.
Very intense sweetness, dominated by the quality corn component. Yellow oranges are then given off, with a strong character. The mix of herbal components and sweet spices makes it an interesting second level beyond the intense caramelized corn sweetness.
Even the palate starts with intense corn sweetness, however this phase is better balanced by an interesting mix of sweet and sour spices. Alcohol is present yet not always invasive, a pleasant surprise taking into account the high ABV. A certain interesting balance.
Medium-long duration, less sweet than the other two phases, with the spicy touch ending in coffee bitterness with some remote mineral salty hints.

Stagg 2019 Kentucky Straight Bourbon is an interesting, rather intense bourbon, with some levels of interaction among the different flavors (corn sweetness, orange, herbal components and a complex mix of semi-sweet spices). Alcohol seems perceivable, yet reasonably well integrated for the very high ABV. A long finish experience.
