Glenallachie 12yo

Glenallachie 12yo is the entry label of the core range of the distillery. The name GlenAllachie comes from Gaelic "gleann aileachaidh" and can be translated as the "valley of the rocks". Despite its young age (it was founded in 1967) the distillery has a solid 40 thousand barrels stock, some of which have been carefully selected for the production of this whisky, released for the first time inmid-2018 following Billy Walker taking over the guide of the distillery in 2017.

TASTING NOTES - GLENALLACHIE 12YO

Nose

Interesting yellow fruit notes (apple, peach, apricot), with a dose of acidity (pineapple, grapefruit, lemon zest). Somehow floral. A pinch of salt and fresh spices (ginger in primis). The buttery, malty notes are in the background.

Palate

Mineral at entrance, salty yet fresh, of ginger. The background is round and fruity, proposing again the yellow fruit notes of the nose, with a hint of unripe cherry component on top. Maybe less evocative when compared to the nose.

Finish

Short and clean. A minor velvety, creamy note of yellow fruit. A very distant milk chocolate hint.

Glenallachie 12yo is a simple and straight-forward product, with a moderately fruity profile of simple texture and palette. It is pleasant and simple to enjoy, but the profile does not speak of very intense aromas, nor the persistency can be considered long. The mineral side adds some freshness.
