Springbank 1991 Bourbon Wood

Springbank before is a small distillery located in Campbeltown that boasts a centuries-old history. Everything is done by hand. The Springbank 1991 Bourbon Wood dates back to 2004. Distilled in 1991, this malt spent its life in ex-Bourbon barrels and belongs to the Wood Expressions series dedicated to the various different types of barrels used by Springbank in its history. In addition to this there are many other versions available: Rum, Port, Madeira, Barolo di Gaja and others.

Furthermore, since 1992 the distillery has decided to use only locally grown barley for the production of whisky. This 1991 is one of the last whiskies based around imported malts, more constant but certainly less personal.

TASTING NOTES SPRINGBANK 1991 BOURBON WOOD

Nose

medium intensity, despite the high ABV content. Scents of yellow apple, white pepper and hints of vanilla. Themn balsamic nuances and cocoa beans. Rather monotonous.

Palate

the high ABV is now perceptible. It delivers notes of black pepper, candied fruit and yellow apple. Then vanilla and custard. The intensity is high but not as expected considering that this whisky has an ABV of 58,5%. Round and solid.

Finish

long persistence. Cocoa and vanilla beans. A little on the dry side. Yellow apple and dried fruits.

The Springbank 1991 Bourbon Wood is equipped with a very good balance. On the other hand, the evolution is rather contained.
