The Lakes Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.4

The Lakes Whiskymaker's Reserve No.4 is the 2021 release from the distillery located 5 miles north-west of the popular tourist destination of Keswick, and just 150 yards from an excellent water supply. In 2013 Paul Currie identified there a disused, 160-year old broken down dairy farm that looked promising, with 26 depictions of quatrefoil, an ancient Celtic symbol representing faith, hope, luck and love. After extensive renovation, the distillery launched in the market in 2019 its No.1, the first widely available single malt.

TASTING NOTES - THE LAKES WHISYMAKER'S RESERVE No. 4

Nose

Sherried rather dry and reasonably refined; strawberry, sultanas, figs are the main fruity notes. Sweetness is quite contained. Distant nutty finish of the nose.

Palate

Sweetness is here more pronounced, reminding of strawberry jam with a good sugary crust. Caramel. Little extra spices, on the sweet part of the spectrum as well.

Finish

Elegant, not too long, still nutty with a more elaborate component than nose and palate, playing well with the sweet and balanced spices.

The Lakes Whiskymaker's Reserve No.4 is an interesting variation on the theme of sherry cask matured whisky; the barrels played in a refined way, adding nutty and fruity components without exaggerating the vinous and woody parts. Tannins are almost absent. ABV is rather on the high side, but it is never unbalanced and results in a very nicely integrated drink. Elegant and refined, easy to drink and enjoyable.
