The idea of Forests of the Deep, a new release of the Talisker brand, was born following an expedition led by Parley for the Oceans, Talisker’s partner in ocean conservation. The trip took place in one of the largest seaweed forests in the world, located near the Cape of Good Hope.
The staves of the Talisker whiskey casks, which had been transported aboard the ship which sailed for the Cape of Good Hope, were subsequently charred using a small amount of sustainably grown Scottish seaweed and wood shavings. After this treatment and the construction of the barrels, the single malt was left to mature inside them.
The aging time is significant: at least 44 years for a whiskey subsequently bottled at 49.1% alcohol. It is available starting December 2022, but its global availability of this release, curated by Diageo Rare & Exceptional, is limited to 1,997 bottles, of which 102 are destined for the United States. The suggested retail price is $ 4,499.99.
