Hinch 10yo Sherry Cask Finish is a release from Hinch distillery, which takes its name from the nearby town of Ballynahinch, with the distillery based just south of Belfast in the grounds of the Killaney Estate. The blend of single malt and single grain, sourced from a different distillery as Hinch opened in 2019, was initially matured in American oak before being treated to a one year finish in Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez. It's then bottled at 43% ABV, released as part of the Time Collection.
Very fruity, with some yellow cooked apple, drop of lemon, grapefruit without the acidic components. It adds some light floral notes as well, orange blossom. The final distant notes are reminding of red fruit. Creamy.
Smooth and mellow, a pleasant experienced obtained by a not too high ABV, pushing easiness of drinking. Creaminess is also here at a premium, pushing a lot of cooked apple and peach. Some vanilla and nuts in the end.
A pinch of winey character comes at the end of the experience, soon after the main aromas of ripe yellow fruit and the bold vanilla. Medium-short, probably coherent with the mild ABV.
Hinch 10yo Sherry Cask Finish has a very modern, creamy and approachable profile which makes it perfect as a intro to more complex products. It provides a very good profile, which does the job in a very smart way, adding some hints of the nutty Oloroso casks to the main profile rich in fruit and vanilla pod. Very balanced.
