The Springbank 12 Cask Strength Batch 15 was released in 2017, but is still available. Since 2010, the Campbeltown distillery has been marketing this 12 years with some particulars worth mentioning: the full grade, hence the "Cask Strength" title, and the use of both ex-Sherry and ex-Bourbon barrels. The previous editions were up to the expectations.
a light smokiness precedes fruity aromas, among which strawberry and sour cherry stand out, followed by raisins and figs. There is a liqueur side to it, then red apple and the classic farm notes from Springbank. The high alcohol content is not perceptible. Lastly, ink notes make their way. Excellent complexity.
the first sip is spicy, with a peppery mix in the foreground. The fruity side is extremely round, almost chewy, with red fruits, mainly cherry and apple. Then notes of strawberry jam, supported by spices, which gradually become more pronounced. Cocoa completes the flavor profile.
medium-full persistence and medium complexity. Cherry liqueur, hay, black pepper and espresso are outlined.
The Springbank 12 Cask Strength Batch 15 reaches the expectations. A structured whisky perhaps milder than other Springbanks, by virtue of the ex-Sherry barrels, which is predominant in this one. The quality/price ratio is very interesting.
